International Women’s Day- KWALE County

International Women’s Day was first celebrated in 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. On this day worldwide we witness groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.

Tuwajali Wajane Kwale Group, a group affiliated with the Come Together Widows and Orphans Organization whose Mantra is (Regesha Hadhi Ya Mjane) marked this day early to give room for Government and County Government activities on 8th March 2022. Pre-International Women’s Day was celebrated at Msambweni Sub County in Kwale County. The event was organized by Mwanasha Gaserego the visionary leader of Tuwajali Wajane Kwale and other stakeholders. Our Founder Dianah Kamande HSC was honoured to be their guest of honour among other amazing women leaders.

Also present was  The Uwezo Fund Women Enterprise Fund Co-op Bank Kenya Kenya Ukunda Branch, Equity Bank Kenya Kenya Ukunda Branch State Department for Social Protection God is Able Widows under the stewardship of Pauline Muthusi who was so instrumental in encouraging Widows and all attendants.

The campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, the bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough. Action is needed to level the playing field.

Ms. Dianah Kamande Called upon each and every one of us Kenyans to #BreakTheBias that has for so long led to Widows Abuse, Discrimination, and Gender-Based Violence meted on the Widows and their children, silently branded as “Our Culture “
