PRE-INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY IN KWALE COUNTY
Pre-International Widows Day Kwale County hosted by Tuwajali Wajane-Regesha Hadhi ya Mjane a Community Based Widows Group affiliated to Come Together Widows and Orphans Organization.
The establishment of International Widows Day will shed light on the epidemic of widowhood, a humanitarian crisis that has gone unnoticed for far too long.
Widows and their children make up 15% of the world’s population, making widowhood an epidemic in the truest sense of the word. Worldwide, there are 245 million widows, 115 million of whom live in extreme poverty, according to a 2010 study.

Widows are faced with stigmatization, their relatives often blaming them for their husbands’ deaths. The collective imagination in many areas of the world associates them with bad luck and even witchcraft.
Glad that our Government through the Ministry of Public Service & Special Programmes started to walk a journey with Widows and it is bearing fruits day by day.
This International Widows Day, we are happy it will be a great day. All widows are encouraged to celebrate from wherever they are and continue raising their voices louder so that we are all speaking in one voice.
Theme in English:Dignity -Economic Empowerment and Social Justice for Widows.
