CTWOO Champions for the protection of Human Rights and Uphold the Dignity of Widows, in alighnment with international standards including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Convention on the Rights of The Child.
CTWOO believes that widows and their children are integral members of the family, despite the community and society often attempting to marginalize them after the loss of a husband and father to their children. Therefore, CTWOO places a strong focus on equipping widows, their children, and members of the community with knowledge about Family Law to ensure they are not subjected to discrimination rooted in harmful cultural practices.
According to the World Bank there are approximately 258 million widows worldwide, with over 115 million living in poverty.
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) 2019 gives an estimate over 1 million widows in Kenya who remain largely voiceless in policymaking and social discussions.
Over the past 11 years, the Come Together Widows and Orphans Organization has approximately 4,100,097 widows through various initiatives, including empowerment programs, media outreach, and workshops.
