Psychosocial Support

We understand that coping with loss and grief can be an overwhelming journey for widows. To address this, we offer compassionate counselling services and support groups to help widows cope with grief and find resilience. Through one-on-one therapy and peer support groups, our trained counsellors provide a safe space for processing emotions and sharing experiences. Additionally, we organize workshops and seminars to teach practical coping strategies and stress management techniques, empowering widows to navigate their challenges and improve their overall well-being.

Financial Literacy

At CTWOO, we recognize that financial literacy is a vital tool for empowering widows to achieve economic independence and create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families. Our initiatives focus on providing widows with practical knowledge and access to financial resources through three core areas: Training, WISALA Table Banking, and Widows SACCOs.

Through Training, we equip widows with essential financial skills, including budgeting, saving, investment strategies, and debt management. These sessions are tailored to meet the unique needs of widows, enabling them to understand and take control of their financial decisions, whether for household management or entrepreneurial ventures.

Our WISALA Table Banking approach is a community-driven initiative where widows, in their respective groups, save and provide loans from their pooled resources. This model not only ensures financial sustainability but also fosters a spirit of collective support and empowerment. WISALA enables widows to access immediate funds for personal and business needs, laying a foundation for self-reliance and growth.

To further expand financial inclusion, we established Come Together Widows SACCO to broaden the financial reach of widows across the country. The SACCO is aimed to provide widows with access to formalized savings and affordable credit services, enabling them to start or grow businesses, invest in long-term projects, and secure their financial future. This national platform bridges the gap for widows, allowing them to scale their financial endeavors and achieve economic empowerment on a larger scale.

Our partnerships with organizations such as the Women Enterprise Fund (WEF), the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), Equity Bank, and the Global Fund for Widows amplify the impact of these initiatives. Together, we provide widows with the tools, training, and resources necessary to overcome financial challenges and build a brighter, more independent future.

Economic Empowerment

We understand that coping with loss and grief can be an overwhelming journey for widows. To address this, we offer compassionate counselling services and support groups to help widows cope with grief and find resilience. Legal Aid Support

Navigating legal issues such as property rights, inheritance rights, and other discriminatory practices affecting widows and their children under Family Law is a key focus for CTWOO. We partner with like-minded organizations, including FIDA Kenya, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), and the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), to offer pro bono services to widows. These partnerships empower widows to understand their rights and improve their access to justice.

To ensure sustainability, CTWOO offers a Six-Month Paralegal Course for widows, training them to become Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) on Family Law. This program has resulted in;

  • Increased knowledge about Family Law,
  • Slight improvement in access to justice, and
  • Significant rise in grassroots advocacy for Family Law.

Additionally, we have observed a growing waitlist of widows and their youthful children eager to be trained as paralegals

Skills Training

We are dedicated to empowering widows through skill development programs in bakery, tailoring, weaving, hairdressing, and cottage industries like beadwork, knitting, and crochet. For instance, we have skills training centers in different counties like Nairobi and Kiambu where we train widows and equip them with skills like tailoring skills, computer skills, and knitting skills, after which they graduate. Join us in our mission to uplift widows, enhance their self-esteem, and pave the way for brighter tomorrows.
